Minnesota Students Suspended For Fake Fight
Several Chaska High School students are faced with suspension after a fight that didn't actually happen. Dozens of students dressed in either red or blue to symbolize "Bloods" and "Crips" and simulated a huge gang fight. This was done to mock the events of a year ago, when an actual fight happened after a gang sign was flashed. The students believed media coverage of that event wrongly made their school look like a center of violence and crime.
Memorial Day
Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is an often over-looked holiday, on May 31st, made to respect men and women who have died serving our country. This holiday started shortly after the Civil War to commemorate the Union soldiers who gave their lives. The name was changed to Memorial Day in 1882. Largely an unknown holiday, it didn't gain popularity until after World War II. Today, people celebrate Memorial Day by visiting cemetaries and memorials. Flags are lowered to half staff and American flags are placed on the gravestones in national cemeteries.
