Penn High School’s Spell Bowl team blew their competition out of the cafeteria.


The Spell Bowl team racked up a perfect score of 90 at their own invitational meet on Thursday night, Oct. 2. The Kingsmen dominated the competition, taking on and blowing away nine other schools.

This was the teams 38th perfect preformance in history, setting a new record for Indiana. It was also the school’s 15th consecutive Penn Invitational win.

The perfect Varsity spellers for Penn were: Michelle Tapp, Alice Kwak, Hannah McGinness, Kanika Arora, Ari Kirsch, Presto George, Max Kirsch, Faihaan Arif, Chris Yun and Disha Waghray. Penn’s Junior Varsity spellers were also perfect for the night; the JV spellers consisted of Muqsit Buchh, Yejee Oh, Josh Rajkumar, Renee Yaseen, Maggie Finnessy, Nikita Kumar, Hannah Smith and Athreya Sundaram. The team is coached by Pete DeKever.

4.) Goshen 41
5.) Garrett 29
6.) Mishawaka 24
7.) Kouts 22
7.) Northwood 22
9.) Prairie Heights 13
