2022년 10월 29일, 서울 이태원의 작은 골목에서 할로윈 파티를 즐기기 위해 모인 수많은 인파들로 인해 압사사고가 발생하였다.
사고가 일어난 골목은 길이 325m, 폭 약 6m인 약간의 경사가 있는 작은 골목이다. 그 작은 골목에 약 10만명이 모이게 되었는데, 그 골목에 들어갈 수 있는 최대 인원보다 7배 많은 사람들이 모였다. 이 많은 인파가 전진하는 도중, 바닥의 전단지와 술로 인해 미끄러워 많은 사람들이 넘어지면서 ‘연쇄 깔림’ 현상이 나타났다.
넘어져서 바닥에 깔린 사람들은 점점 의식을 잃어갔고, 계속해서 사람들이 깔리기 시작했다. 약 300명의 사람들의 몸이 껴서 빼내기조차 힘든 상황이었다. 일부 사람들은 구토, 장기 파손으로 인한 복부 팽창이 진행되고 있는 상태였다. 또한, 이미 질식한 사람들도 존재하였다.
너무 많은 사람들로 인해 최초 신고 이후 40분이 지나서야 구급차 진입이 가능해졌다. 그 자리에 있던 사람들의 증언에 따르면, 길이 너무 좁아 뒤에 있던 남성 무리들이 자리를 넓히기 위해 “밀어! 그냥 밀어!” 라고 외치며 앞에 있던 사람들을 세게 밀어 우르르 넘어졌다는 얘기도 있다. 또한, 몇 명의 사람들이 호흡 곤란으로 인해 심장이 뛰지 않자, 주변 사람들이 “여기 사람이 쓰러졌어요!” 라고 외치며 도움을 청하였지만, 대부분의 사람들은 신경 쓰지 않았다고 한다. 그리고 인터넷에 떠도는 영상을 보면, 구급차가 들어와야 하는 상황에 많은 사람들이 쓰러진 사람들과 구급차의 영상을 찍고 노래를 부르며 웃었다. 이에 관해 경찰들이 조사를 하고 있는 상태이다.
구급대원들이 숨을 쉬지 않는 사람들에게 cpr을 시행하는 영상도 많이 존재한다.
최소 156명 사망 ( 한국인:129명, 외국인:26명), 최소 172명 부상으로 알려져있다.
On October 29, 2022, a large crowd gathered to enjoy a Halloween party in a small alley in Itaewon, Seoul. The large crowd in the small space resulted in a crushing accident.
The alley where the accident occurred was very small. There were about 100,000 people in the alley, seven times the maximum number of people who could enter the alley. While this large crowd was advancing, trash on the floor caused many to slip and fall, causing a ‘chain crushing phenomenon’.
Some people fell and passed out causing other guests to trip resulting in many more people getting hurt. About 300 people became trapped in the alley. The accident resulted in some experiencing vomiting and bloating as a result of organ damage, and some experienced choking.
Due to a large number of people in attendance, the ambulance could not get to the injured guests until 40 minutes after the first call for help.
According to some in attendance, people were heard shouting. “Push! Just push!” There are also reports of screaming, and guests pushing people so hard that they fell. Some people’s hearts had stopped beating, and people have been reported to say “This man has fallen!” Many guests called out for help, but most people said they didn’t care. The videos of the incident show many people singing and laughing and filming those receiving medical assistance from the first responders. Police are investigating these videos and claims.
There are also many videos of first responders performing CPR on guests who are not breathing.
At least 156 people were killed (129 locals, 26 foreigners) and at least 172 people were injured.
