It was a perfect night for a football game on friday, August 21. The Penn Kingsmen walked out onto the Valparaiso Vikings field hungry after last season being cut short by the Carmel Greyhounds at semi-state.
The Kingsmen shoutout the Vikings with a score of 34-0, the Kingsmen are now 1-0 and have won the last 5 meetings with Valpo.
Senior quarterback Cam Bohn led scored the first touchdown of the Kingsmen season with a 4 yard run, then later rushed for a 17 yard touchdown. His last touchdown came off a 28 yard run. Cam also threw for 87 yards in the season opener going 9-14 through the air.
Running back Cedric Vakalahi helped the Kingsmen in the win with a 76 yard touchdown on his own. The senior finished with a total of 131 rushing yards.
Penn dominated the stats ending the game with 340 rushing yards to Valpo’s 39, Penn also had 16 first downs while the Vikings only had 5.
The preseason AP poll had the Kingsmen ranked #3, after the blowout friday night Penn now has to get ready for the pre0ason ranked #18 Merrillville Pirates who opened up the season with a 15-12 loss to Andrean.
The game between Penn and Merrillville is set to kickoff at 7:30, this will be Penns first home game of the season.
