On May 4th, thousands of people gathered at Penn High School for some bubble filled fun.
Along with having a bubble run, there were vendors from around the community, health screenings, a silent auction, and a talent showcase. Schools alone brought in over $10,000 for the Penn Harris Madison Education Foundation. The Bubble Bash Run attracted approximately 570 people along with the talent show case bringing in a vast amount of students and their families.
The Silver Mile is a vital and important part of the PHM community. This fundraising event is hosted and sponsored
annually by the Penn Harris Madison Education Foundation. As a fundraiser, the money is contributed to support excellence in education in PHM. According to Superintendent Dr. Jerry Thacker, “The fundraiser typically raises around $90,000 and the money goes directly into providing students with special initiatives which wouldn’t take place if this money wasn’t raised.” Dr. Thacker also goes on to explain how, “Over the last 22 years, the foundation has raised over 1 million dollars.”
The Silver Mile is just one example of the fundraising activities and benefits that are going on in our area. Through programs like this, changes are being made throughout PHM: impacting students, fueling excellence in education, and strengthening the minds of our community.
