Presidents Day was originally established to celebrate the birthdays of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. The holiday was first officially proclaimed by President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1879 and was originally celebrated on February 22nd, which was Washington’s birthday. In 1968, the Uniform Monday Holiday Act was passed, moving the celebration of Presidents Day to the third Monday in February, to create a three-day weekend for federal employees.

Every year around this time there are a lot of entertaining and educational events. One of the most popular events of the day is the Presidential Impersonators’ Parade. Impersonators of famous presidents such as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt, among others, will march down Pennsylvania Avenue and entertain crowds with their speeches and witty humor. The parade, which has been a staple of the President’s Day celebration for the past several years, is a great way for families and history buffs alike to learn about the country’s leaders in a fun and interactive way.

Another exciting event on the schedule is the Presidential Trivia Challenge. Participants will test their knowledge of presidential history and compete for prizes.
