The Problem with Drugs in Korea

These days, the problem with drugs is serious in Korea. South Korea has been called a drug-free country because the drug-related problem is not serious.

However, recently, there have been an increasing number of famous celebrities who have taken drugs and been caught by the police. Additionally, the number of people using drugs is increasing, not only among celebrities but also among the general public.

Recently, Korea’s Coast Guard arrested 21 drug offenders who were both using and selling drugs. Among these 21 people were college students, office workers, and even basic beneficiaries.

Among them, it was revealed that one man disguised himself as a woman to avoid drug crackdowns. The reason we were able to arrest a large number of drug offenders was because of the black bags salvaged from the beach.

A fisherman retrieved a bag full of drug syringes from the sea in Jung-gu, Busan. DNA from the syringes was extracted and through the National Forensic Service, two drug users were identified and the two were successfully investigated and arrested. “We sequentially arrested the people who were distributing Philopon.”

Another Busan Police Agency crackdown team finds people hiding in every nook and cranny of clubs, including bathrooms and boiler rooms.

The Busan Police Agency cracked down on two establishments, including karaoke rooms exclusively for foreigners in Busan and Gyeongnam, on two occasions in May and October, arresting 13 people, including those who had taken the new drugs ecstasy and ketamine, as well as the business owner. In Korea, illegal foreigners held drug parties, and eventually they were forced to leave the country.

From September 2022 to August this year, the number of narcotic and hallucinogenic substance offenses reported in Korea was approximately 24,000. From September 2021 to August 2022, there were 17,935 drug-related incidents, an increase of more than 30% compared to this year.

In Korea, it seems urgent to prepare comprehensive measures against drug offenders who have infiltrated all aspects of society.

요즘 한국에서는 마약에 대한 문제가 심각합니다. 대한민국은 마약 관련 문제가 심각하지 않아 마약 청정국이라 불렸습니다.

하지만 최근 들어 마약을 투약한 많은 유명연예인들이 경찰에 잡혀가는 사례가 많아지고 있습니다. 또한 유명인들뿐만 아니라 일반인들 중에서도 마약을 하는 사람들이 늘어나는 추세입니다. 

최근에 한국의 해양경찰청에서는 마약을 투약하기도 하고 판매하기도 하는 21명의 마약사범을 검거했습니다. 이 21명 중에는 대학생, 회사원, 심지어 기초수급자도 포함되어 있었습니다. 이들 중 마약 단속을 피하기 위해 한 남성이 여장을 하고 다닌 것으로 밝혀졌습니다.

마약사범을 무더기로 검거할 수 있었던 건 바닷가에서 건져 올린 검은 봉지 덕분이었습니다. 낚시객이 부산 중구 해상에서 마약 주사기가 가득 담겨 있는 봉지를 건져 올렸고, 주사기에 있는 DNA를 추출하고 국과수를 통해서 그 속에서 마약 투약자 2명을 특정했고 그 두 사람을 조사해서 모두 구속하는 데 성공했습니다. 순차적으로 필로폰을 유통했던 그 사람들을 차곡차곡 검거했던 겁니다.”

또 다른 부산경찰청 단속반에서는 클럽의 화장실, 보일러실 등 구석구석에서 숨어 있는 사람들을 찾아냅니다. 부산경찰청은 지난 5월과 10월 두 차례에 걸쳐 부산과 경남 지역 외국인 전용 노래방 등 업소 2곳을 단속해 신종마약 엑스터시와 케타민을 투약한 이들과 업주 등 13명을 붙잡았습니다. 한국에는 외국인 불법 체류자들이 마약 파티를 벌이기도 하였고, 결국 그들은 강제 출국을 당했습니다. 

2022년 9월부터 올해 8월까지 한국에서 접수된 마약류 및 환각물질 사범 건수는 2만4천여 건이다. 2021년 9월부터 2022 8월에는 마약 관련 사건 사고가  17935건이었으므로  이번 년도와 비교해 봤을 때 마약 관련 사건 사고가 30% 이상 증가했습니다.

한국에는 사회 전방위로 파고든 마약 사범에 대한 종합적인 대책 마련이 시급해 보입니다.
