On Saturday, September 18, 2021, twelve Black Student Union students and two teachers gathered at Freed Field to clean up the bleachers from Friday night’s game against Elkhart. The Black student union earned $150 for the work they did from Penn Athletics Provides.
“We are helping the PHM Staff as it’s a service that helps our maintenance staff, and it helps our stadium look beautiful for future events,” says Angela Yarnell, BSU sponsor, and Early College teacher.
The money that the BSU earned went to a variety of things like club expenses when they want to get T-shirts, and it can help when they plan future field trips. It also went to lower the cost for students when they go on field trips and do different events at school. “This opportunity helped to create bonds between the students,” says Angela Yarrell.
