Kingsmen fighting cancer in year one

It’s only been the first year for Kingsmen Against Cancer here at Penn High School, and what a year it’s been.

Club founder, Anna Carpenter who is a senior, kicked off the club at the beginning of this school year with the help of her friends, Megan Beehler, Macie Martin, and Sarah Lang; all seniors during the 2014-2015 school year. The club’s mission was to help create gift bags for the children at Memorial Children’s Hospital to help bring a bright light to their bleak situation.

The idea for this club came about when the group of girls decided to make a difference here at Penn. The clubs founder and president, Anna Carpenter, brought the idea to her friends and club sponsor, Mrs. Lutkus who is a Spanish teacher here at Penn. Anna thought of the idea after she fought her own battle with cancer in 8th grade. She has now been cancer free for four years.

The club started up in September of 2014 and had an incredible 63 members in their first year. The club has had a total of 14 meetings throughout the 2014-2015 school year with five hospital deliveries to round out the clubs year.

After 14 meetings, 5 hospital deliveries, and one year, this club comes to a close for the summer. For more information about KAC, come to the back to school walk around in August, or email pennkac@gmail.com.
