Penn High School is located in the (arguably) perfect place. It’s in Mishawaka, but has ties all the way through Granger into South Bend. These three areas combined make for a wonderful snowy season, with ice rinks galore and tree lightings everywhere. Here’s the best upcoming activities in the area this winter.

Mishawaka Park’s Ironworks Ice Rink lies in the heart of Downtown Mishawaka, right by the Mishawaka Riverwalk. The rink is open daily in the afternoon hours, and youth admission is $8. Skaters are encouraged to make reservations online, and ice bumper carts and Ice Bykes are almost always unavailable without prepayment. Within walking distance are local favorites such as Chicory Cafe and Doc Pierce’s Restaurant.

Howard Park in South Bend also offers ice skating for $5 from Nov to Mar. The rink also features an ice trail has an area of 16,000 square feet with an ice pond (closed until Feb 27 for learn to skate lessons).

Activities like sledding and tubing are also easy options, with hills in neighborhoods all over the area. George Wilson Park near Blair Hills in Mishawaka has 54.3 acres of hills, and St. Patrick’s County Park in St. Joseph County hosts innertubing weekend from 12-5 p.m. every weekend.

Finally, skiing and snowboarding are always a favorite during the snowy times of year. Swiss Valley in Jones, MI is made of twelve trails and two terrain parks accompanied with two quad chairlifts and one triple chairlift.
