Changes in the the library

Ms. Armstrong who taught English classes this year, also advised the Yearbook and Spectrum programs. Furthermore, since Mrs. Kizer is retiring at the end of the school year, Ms. Armstrong will be the new librarian for Penn. After Ms. Armstrong discovered that Mrs. Kizer was retiring, she applied for the librarian position. Ms. Armstrong’s favorite genre is historical fiction. She’s excited to be able to read at her leisure again. She enjoys reading good fiction that “teaches us how people relate to one another…it shows us the things that we all have in common. We all want to be loved. We all want security. We all hurt when bad things happen.  We’re flawed. We struggle.  I love stories, both real and fictional, about the human spirit…people who pushed themselves beyond their limits, went out on a limb, sought answers to the big questions, explored, tried to figure out just what we were put on this earth to do.”

Some of her favorite titles include:

Ulysses by James Joyce
Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer
The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger
East of Eden by John Steinbeck
Ms. Armstrong will still sponsor Spectrum, so we look forward to an exciting new year for 2016-2017.
