Building a house is an art, but building a gingerbread house is a family-friendly art! It’s a time-honored tradition for many families, but this year, some are taking it to the next level in the South Bend Gingerbread Village competition. We’ll be taking a look at it in this edition of Cheap Date.

Even though the deadline to enter has passed, there is still fun to be had by all! Throughout December, the public can see all entries that have been submitted so far. But on the 20th, the main event — the judging — will begin. Come check out the contest and see who wins!

There will be prizes in four categories: non-professional child (18 and under), non-professional (individual, family, or group), professional (individual or group), and people’s choice. Entries will be judged on several categories, including originality, craftsmanship, and degree of difficulty.

You can see the entries in Santa’s Workshop in the old College Football Hall of Fame in downtown South Bend. (I talked about Santa’s Workshop in Edition 6 of Cheap Date. For a list of dates and times, click here.) Judging will take place on December 20 at 1pm, and the awards ceremony will begin at 3pm.
