Day of the Dead celebrates the life of many

This weekend, on Nov 1 and 2, the Latin celebration of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) will begin. In this beautiful occasion, people remember the friends, family members, and anyone else close to them that has finished their journey in life.

Celebrations include preparing an alar that contains the memories of the past: including food, objects, and a picture. Petals of cenpasuchil create a guide to the altar, which also includes several items for a person’s return to the land of the living: such as water in case they’re thirsty after a long amount of travel, salt to avoid the corruption of souls and other elements; candles to represent fire; and papel picado to represent air.

These few days are a celebration of people. It is not a time to cry for someone’s passing, but to celebrate their living.
