On Friday night the Penn football team traveled to New Carlisle to take on New Prairie. Winning 22-0. The defense really showed up shutting the New Prairie offense out 22-0. According to the South Bend Tribune, Maverick Brown recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown. This was the 4th shutout in 5 weeks for the defense of Penn.
The Wild Bunch only allowed 3 yards the whole game. This just shows how strong the Wild Bunch defense was.
With this win this puts the Penn team at 7-1 and 4-0 in the NIC. According to the South Bend Tribune, The offense started 6 drives in the Cougars territory. Penn ran 64 plays compared to only 34 plays for New Prairie. Jake Balis finished the night with 90 yards on the ground. Nolan McCullough also had 90 yards rushing.
Maddox Reynolds got to talk to cornerback Vincent Horner before the game on Friday. He had this to say about how the season is going. “Its going really good, really good record so far a lot of guys doing their job.” When we asked him goals going into sectionals he had this to say. “I just want to make the people around me better, coming to practice everyday with the intent to get better.”
This Friday night they finish out they regular against South Bend Adams. Adams is 1-7 on the season. After the Adams game they have a week off before going into sectional play. Penn plays Elkhart as Warsaw plays Fort Wayne Carroll. The winner of both those games will meet in the sectional championship.
The last time the Kingsmen has won the sectional championship was in 2021. The team is hoping the defense stays strong and has a state championship appearance.
