Penn Women’s Swimming Wins 20th Consecutive NIC Championship
On Saturday, January 16, Penn Women’s swimming won the NIC Championship, bringing home their 20th consecutive title and a trophy.The women competed against nine other schools, including Riley, Saint Joe and Mishawaka High School. The team finished the meet in first place with a total of 599.5 points; Riley finished in second place with 472.5 points.
Kionna Clayton swam a meet best at the Riley Natatorium; she placed first in 4 races. Clayton won the 200 IM, 100 Breast, 400 relay and 200 medley relay.
Jess Preston was interviewed by the South Bend Tribune about Clayton, he told the Tribune, “She’s just clutch. Kionna usually has great turns and has a great underwater pull. She pulled ahead of (Kirkpatrick) on that last turn to win that race.”
Captain Lea Cecil, Maddi Zeigert, Kionna Clayton and Megan Ronci tied the pool record of 3:36.07, winning the 400 relay.
