On a night that MLB scouts came out to watch Penn ace pitcher Skyler Szynski, the Kingsmen added another conference win to their resume to remain in first place.
The game against the St. Joe Indians was supposed to be played at St. Joe’s home field, but due to the rain the night before, the game had to be moved to Penn. St Joe came into the game with a record of 13-2 overall and Penn had a record of 18-4 and undefeated in the NIC.
It was a low scoring and not a lot of action game. The Kingsmen earned the 2-1 win over the Indians. Penn pitcher Skyler Szynski only gave up one run on 2 hits. The only run came from the Indian’s Danny Torres in the first inning. The Indian’s starting pitcher was Ryan Fraser and reliever was Joe Staud, Penn had two runs on seven hits. Both runs coming off sacrifice flies from Brandon Stesiak and Ryan Herman.
Skyler is ranked as the 84th draft prospect according to Baseball America, and that is what is drawing the scouts seen at the games this year.
The Kingsmen will next face rival Mishawaka at home tomorrow.
