On September 2, 2015 Penn’s varsity men’s soccer team played a well-structured Elkhart Central team at home. The outcome was anything but expected for hopeful Penn fans. Starting for the second time in 3 short games was Freshman Ryan Hauge, a talented young midfield/winger.
Right from kick-off Elkhart Central started with strong defensive plays and several over-the-head lobs to get down the field quickly and play a strong defensive game.
By 10 minutes into the game the Blazers were already up 2-0 with well worked goals.
In the first 20 minutes the Blazers of Elkhart Central already had three shots on target compared to Penn’s one due to shaky defending by the Kingsmen.
In the 25th minute, Penn’s best chance to score came from a nice corner kick that got headed, but was well saved by the Elkhart Central goal-keeper.
No cards were given during the game, but there were multiple big hits along with minor playable injuries. The second half was very quiet with few chances for a goal.
The Kingsmen face John Glenn on Tuesday, September 8th. at home.
