On Saturday night in Indianapolis, the Penn lady Kingsmen captured the first state title in school history for girls basketball. Coming off a loss at regional last year, Penn led by 7 seniors, finally earned the state title they worked hard for. The defending state champs and number 1 ranked Columbus North Bull Dogs were Penn’s final test.
Penn came out with a dominate win with a score of 68-48. Senior Camryn Buhr once again led the Kingsmen with 24 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to end her career at Penn. Another senior, Kaitlyn Marenyi ended the game with 21 points. The 3rd player in double figures was junior Lindsy Kline with 11 points.
Columbus North’s Imani Guy led the Bull Dogs with 13 points and 11 rebounds. The Bulls Dog’s dominated offensive rebounds 22-7, but turnovers were the biggest factor. Columbus North had 17 turnovers that led to 17 points for Penn.
The Lady Kingsmen finished the season with a record of 28-2 losing to the St. Joe Indians, and Columbus North Bull Dogs.
The state champions will be honored tonight at Penn in the main arena starting at 6.
