Powder Puff Football season has rolled around again, and our teams have been practicing hard. So hard, in fact, that they’ll be playing all their games on Wednesday, September 21 at 7:00 pm. The freshmen girls will play the juniors, and the sophomores will play the seniors. The winners will then face off against each other, as well as the losers.
Biology teacher, Mr. Lopez, coaches the sophomore team alongside Ms. Mammolenti and has been doing so for two years now. Coach Lopez explains how coaching Powder Puff works and how he enjoys it.
“I started coaching last year, and the way that it works is that coaches move up with their class…so it’s really nice to see them grow, one: as a team, and two: learning more about the game. The coolest thing was last year, I didn’t know a lot about football, so I was kind of learning with the girls and I’m still learning with them as we go on.”
Powder Puff football has offered opportunities to young women to meet one another and compete on the grid iron and have fun. Coach Lopez explains how the Powder Puff experience has been going long and strong for generations. “It’s a really nice tradition at Penn and it’s been going on for a long time…at least since the late seventies. It gives girls an opportunity to play football, [and] allows us to have this team atmosphere and just have fun!”
The game takes place on Freed Field at 7:00. Come out and support your Lady Kingsmen!
