Spectrum is Penn Highschool’s litarary magazine. A litarary magazine is a collection of art and writing in a magazine. Spectrum is mostly Penn’s student art and writing. Spectrum’s fall issue is out now. Students can buy it in the bookstore for five dollars.
Spectrum has been around for along time. Caelea Armstrong, the Spectrum Magazine advisor, commented on just how old the magazine is stating “I know Spectrum has existed in some form or another sinse the sixties” Penn has a long history with the magazine and supporting student art and writing.
Spectrum is currently working on their spring issue. If a student wishes to see their pieces in the magazine, they can email them to spectrum@phm.k12.in.us. Spectrum is also looking for new members for the 2023-2024 school year. Current student Maddie Martian recommend the class for students stating, “If you are a creative person, defiantly you”
Spectrum creates spreads using the Adobe program InDesign. One of Spectrum lead editors Valentina Gianesi talked about creating spreads, “my favorite part of the fall magazine this year is seeing the growth of everyone, we started off making really simple spreads which were just blocks of color with maybe one picture and seeing everyone get really creative.” The class is full of creative students, who create a great product.
