Currently, our Penn Kingsmen varsity football team is 5-1 this season, third in the IN Class 6A standings (behind undefeated Brownsburg and Crown Point), outscoring their opponents by an average of 14.3 points a game. They boast the best record in the NIC East-West, being 2-0 in conference play. Some highlights from the season include our beatdown of Mishawaka in the Backyard Brawl, 28-7, and Penn shutting out both Hammond Morton and Elkhart in consecutive matchups, 35-0 and 21-0. To quote Penn quarterback Nolan McCullough (’23), “I was really looking forward to [the] Mishawaka game, just because [of] the rivalry that’s been [there] over the years.” McCullough also had this to say about how the season was going so far: “The season’s going well so far. We’re two games in the NIC, 2-0, so a big goal of ours is to win the NIC, so we have three more of that to go. Frst four went pretty well, and then we’re on to Sectionals and the rest of the playoffs.” With the majority of the team’s core revolving around seniors and the team comig off an early playoff exit last year, expect our Penn Kingsmen varsity football team to continue to make noise in the regular season they have left and the playoffs.
