Penn High School’s very own principal, Dr. Galiher, recently earned his Ph.D. from West Lafayette Purdue University. Dr. Galiher completed his Ph.D. over the course of 3 years, while still maintaining his role as principal at Penn High School.
One requirement needed for earning one’s Ph.D. is a dissertation. A dissertation is a detailed essay or report on a topic or question of one’s choice. Dr. Galiher was curious about the impacts of open enrollment in our schools and researched this topic for his dissertation.
“I wanted to learn from superintendents from across the state that have been in their roles for many years, at least 10 years, and have seen the changes in the law over that time.” – Dr. Galiher.
Dr. Galiher was curious about the impacts of open enrollment on schools and wanted to know how open enrollment is impacting school districts. According to Dr. Galiher, open enrollment is when students choose a school to attend rather than attending a school based on where they live. Over the course of a year, he interviewed superintendents from across the state and analyzed data to complete his dissertation.
