On Monday, September 19th, Penn’s Spell Bowl team had no trouble in the Benton Central Invitational in Oxford, Indiana.

The team, led by Coach DeKever, maintains their winning streak continued from last year’s state championship win. Here are the stats:

Penn- 85 points

Logansport- 41 points

Kouts- 38 points

Benton Central- 22 points

Six members from Varsity had perfect scores, including Michelle Tapp, Amy Bernard, Yewon Oh, Muqsit Buchh, Chelsea Chen and Hannah McGinness. Two members from JV also had perfect scores, and those were Ahsan Siddiqui and Jaylan Jaga.

The competition is fierce this year. Martinsville is the biggest concern in the state competition, but Coach Dekever reminds the team to stay focused & strong. Senior & Spell Bowl Captain, Hannah McGinness said, “This year we are making great progress… we are definitely getting better.”

With a great start to their season, the next competition will be the Penn Invitational on Thursday, Sept. 29th at 6 pm in the Penn cafeteria. Admission is free.
