On Tuesday, October 18th, Chinese students (along with their club) had the opportunity to go visit Chinatown in Chicago.

Twenty students attended the city and were separated into two groups. One group went to the Chinese-American Museum of Chicago, where students learned about the Chinese culture, immigrants, and history.  The second group, who visited the museum the previous year, explored the city to learn about the culture within the windy city.

“I want them to learn the history of American-Chinese immigrants… and the history of Chinatown,” Penn Chinese teacher, Mrs. Wu, said.

After their adventure, students visited a traditional Chinese restaurant, where they could explore the Chinese culture in a variety of foods.

“They had a lot of traditional food there,” Nadya Alshawi, a visitor on the trip, said.

The field trip helped better students’ understanding of the culture, along with immersing themselves into the lifestyle.

“The culture there is very similar to China… Everything is Chinese authentic.” Alshawi said.
