Penn Model U.N competes at IU Bloomington conference

On February 25th, 26th, and 27th, the Penn Model U.N took a trip to a conference at IU Bloomington. More than sixty students of Model UN participated in a conference that lasted for a total of three days.

Each student had a different topic and country to learn about before they attended the conference. Every Monday after school, the Model UN club met in LGI-B to discuss, learn, and find more about the conference that they will attend. The executive leader will answer every question, teach and talk about their experience in their previous conference.

The conference was placed at “SPEA” and each classroom was seen as a conference room. Many students from many different high schools represented different countries and competed with each other. They talked about what should they do to help their country better and how to stop bad things from happening in their country.

Aziza Ali, a Junior Model UN member here at Penn, participated in the conference and spoke about her time.

“It was a great experience, I learned a lot of things from the conference and also from other students from other schools.”

That was her first year joining the club and her first time participating in a conference. Mikaila Bounphisai, a senior awarded “best position paper” stated:

“This is my first and also last year I participate in the club, at first I didn’t really know what’s going on, but by the help of Mrs.Smith and executive leader, I learned a lot from them and I also learned a lot about the country that was assigned to me to work on.”

Due to graduating with the 2018 class, Mikalia wishes she “would’ve been a part of the club next year again.”

Model UN has helped students learn more about what’s going on around the world and how a leader might taken ownership of their country in hard times.
