The results from the debate tournament at home last Saturday, November 16th, are here! Some notable results include Claire Laffin’s 2nd place in Novice Lincoln Douglass, Kriya Patel’s 2nd place in Varsity Congress, and Luke and Oliver 4th in Varsity Policy debate. Lincoln Douglass debated the topic “Resolved: The United States ought to eliminate subsidies for fossil fuels”, and Policy debated the topic, “Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially reduce Direct Commercial Sales and/or Foreign Military Sales of arms from the United States.”

Luke Brown, one of the more prominent members of the Varsity team said in an interview: “Our Novices are very high this year, some of them placing very high, so its going to be interesting as this season goes on.” As seen in the high novice placements this tournament, he seems to be right.

The next debate tournament will be held next Saturday. Congratulations on the Penn debaters for great results in this tournament, and hopefully future results will be even better.
