The Penn High School community has suffered a terrible loss. Nicholas and Jack Savage, both recent graduates of Penn High School, tragically lost their lives this past weekend, June 13th.

Nick, a 19 year old 2014 graduate of Penn, was a former captain of the Penn Hockey Club. His senior quote in the 2014 Penn yearbook was one by Milton Berle, stating, “If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.” Jack Savage, an 18 year old 2015 graduate of Penn, was also a captain of Penn’s Hockey Club.

The Penn community was hit hard by the loss of these two young men. The Penn-Harris-Madison Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Jerry Thacker, had this to say about the loss: “Tragedies that strike our community’s young are particularly difficult to grapple with and understand; the pain is unimaginable when it strikes a family twice. The P-H-M family will work with the Savage family in the coming days to offer whatever assistance we can to help them in their time of sorrow.”

For the students, graduates, staff, parents, and community members who were affected by this loss, the doors of the Penn Counseling Center will be open from June 15th through the 19th from 8:00 AM until noon. To arrange another time, call 258-9505.

There will be a visitation held for the two young men on Thursday, June 18th, from 3:00 until 8:00 PM in the Penn Main Arena. Beginning at noon on Thursday, the Penn Main Arena and the immediately surrounding areas will be restricted to Penn summer camp participants.

The funeral for Nicholas and Jack Savage will be on Friday at 11:00 AM at Sunnyside Presbyterian Church.
