Penn Girls’ Basketball Chalks Up First Conference Win vs. Riley

The Penn Lady Kingsmen headed to the South Side of South Bend to play conference rival, Riley High School, for their second game of the season.

The defending state champions strode out on the floor with confidence as they won the tip and were off to a great start. The girls quickly took a commanding lead in the first quarter with a score of 15-7.

The Lady Kingsmen, led by senior Lindsy Kline, walked onto the court feeling a little more comfortable with their lead. In the second quarter, the Kingsmen outscored the Wildcats 15-4, giving them a halftime lead of 30-11. By this time, junior post player, Tia Chambers had 10 points and Lindsy Kline had 11 points. 

After a motivational halftime speech by head coach, Kristi Ulrich, the Lady Kingsmen prepared to head back out onto the court with nothing but momentum and confidence. By the end of the third quarter, the lead for Penn had nearly doubled with the score now reading 54-29.

At last, the fourth quarter finally arrived, and Coach Ulrich and her girls were ready to chalk up their first conference win of the season. After 8 minutes of play, the buzzer went off and the scoreboard read 72-37, in favor of Penn.

The girls couldn’t have been happier with the outcome or with the team effort. Final statistics for the leading scorers read: Lindsy Kline with 19 points, Tia Chambers with 17 points, Sara Doi with 12 points, and Reganne Pate with 11 points.
