Marian escaped the black and gold wrath of Penn, beating women’s Varsity volleyball team with a score of three matches to one on Tuesday, September 8th.

The Penn squad got off to a slow start on Tuesday, losing in the first set 24-26, but picked up the pace in the second set. The Kingsmen rebounded with a 25-20 win in the second set. At the start of the third set, Penn was going strong and in the lead, but in the last points of the match, Marian rallied to overcome the Kingsmen 25-21.

With perseverance, Penn forged on. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to conquer Marian.  Penn lost 24-26 in the final set. It was a rough loss for Penn.

Although Penn lost, the varsity team played with skill and agility. Maddie Wiseman, outside hitter, lead Penn with 15 total kills. Setter, Josie Engdahl, had 45 total assists.

Middle hitter Italia Fields, said, “We should have played better. We were strong in some areas, like offense, and weak in others, like passing. We plan on winning next time. Marian was good, but next time we’ll be better. The loss made us stronger as a whole. Now we know exactly how to beat them.”
