After making it to the sectional championship last week, the men’s basketball team fell short of the sectional crown to the South Bend Riley Wildcats with a final score of 74 to 69.

In January, the Kingsmen defeated Riley. Unfortunately, that was not the case last Saturday. The Kingsmen took a 14 point lead going into half 32-18. Riley stormed back in the second half and took control of the game in the fourth quarter.

After a controversial technical foul that gave Riley the ball and four free throws, Riley took took the lead by 5 with less than a minute left. The Wildcats ended up victorious by 5 and will advance to the regional semi-final in Michigan City this Saturday.

The Kingsmen played South Bend Washington in their first match up in the sectional quarterfinal and won with a final score of 67-56. The game featured 5 players in double digit points for the Kingsmen, which included Billy Doslak, Ryan Lutz, Camden Bohn, Matt Trewhella, and Trey Burns.

In the sectional semifinal, the Kingsmen matched up with the Plymouth Pilgrims, who they previously lost to in February. This game however, was different. The Kingsmen prevailed 57 to 40. Leading scorers were Matt Trewhella with 15 points and Trey Burns with 13.

With the win over the Pilgrims, the 2015 trio of Ryan Lutz, Billy Doslak, and Nate Miller became the all time win leaders for Penn Men’s Basketball history with 71 career wins. The previous record was 70 wins by the 2006 class. The 2015 trio won 10 games as freshman, 17 as sophomores, 23 as juniors, and 21 wins as seniors.

Congratulations to the entire Men’s basketball team on a great season!
