Hot shooting by Matt Trewhella leads Penn to win.
Penn started the game on fire in last nights sectional win. Trewhella went 4/4 shooting in the first quarter giving Penn a 11-3 lead.
A 3 pointer made by senior guard Tyler Seger at the start of the second quarter gave the Kingsmen a comfortable 11 point lead. The word comfortable would be the exact opposite of how the Kingsmen felt after their 14-3 lead.
After a fire alarm stopped play midway through the second quarter, the Northridge Raiders made a come back. The Raiders ended the half on a 7 to 1 run and tied the game. Going into the break both teams were deadlocked at 17.
A strong second quarter by the Raiders was fueled by Kurtis Hochstetler. Hochstetler played some of the best defense that Matt Trewhella may have seen all season.
The Kingsmen trailed by 3 heading into the fourth quarter. Trewhella placed the team on his back and went on a 10-0 run on himself to give Penn the lead for good.
Penn was victorious with a final score of 55-48. Trewhella finished with a game high 25 points. Gunnar Dittrich scored 10 points, and Tyler Seger and Noah Applegate scored 9 points each. Kurstin Hochstetler scored 18 for the Raiders.
The Kingsmen will now take on the fifth ranked team in class 4A basketball, the Warsaw Tigers. Penn Coach Al Rhodes previously coached the Warsaw Tigers early in his career and won a state title with the Tigers in 1984. Coach Rhodes has only faced his former team one time and the score was 65-43 in favor of the Tigers.
The game will be played at North Side Gym, tonight at 6:00 PM. The winner of this game will play the winner of Elkhart Central vs. Goshen, Saturday at 7:30 PM.
