Two of the four students selected as recipients of the prestigious 2024 Lilly Endowed Scholarship are seniors at Penn High School! They are Bella Schaetzle and Jayden Wang. This highly competitive scholarship awards the winner a four-year full tuition scholarship and a book stipend to the Indiana University of their choice! Including Schaetzle and Wang, Penn High School has 37 students named Lilly Scholars! Bella is the daughter of Penn history teacher Dan Schaetzle.

The Community Foundation is in St. Since 1988 when St. Joseph County began administering the Lilly Scholarship, 37 Penn students (including Schaetzle and Wang) have been selected as recipients. Last year there were two winners from Penn, and in 2022 there were four winners.

The Lilly Endowment Scholarship is a highly competitive, award-winning scholarship that provides a four-year, full-tuition scholarship and book stipend to the Indiana University of one’s choice. Awards are based on academic excellence, leadership, community service, employment history, essay writing, personal recommendation, underrepresentation, and whether the student is the first generation in his or her family to attend college. The Community Foundation received more than 120 applications from 12 schools. The finalists’ names were submitted to Indiana Independent University for final selection.
