The Penn Chinese Club held a Chinese New Year party on February 4th, 2017. The Chinese New Year party consisted of traditional Chinese games, crafts, and food. The Chinese traditional “Dragon dance” was shown at the Chinese party. Here, the Chinese students taught other students how the dance is done.

The actual Chinese New Year date is February 16 of 2017 and the zodiac sign for this year is a dog. The Chinese party was a way of exposing Chinese culture to students on a holiday where china celebrates tremendously. It’s a time where people swear there traditional clothing and go celebrate.

Mrs. Wu explained that Chinese New Year is a time where people go house to house to go congratulate one another on the new year. One of the Penn Chinese students Robert Zhang states that “Its a great way for Discovery students to learn about Chinese culture and since they are going to Penn they will have an opportunity to be apart of Chinese Club”.

Mrs.Wu taught a little bit of Chinese phrases that people usually say during the new year, “gongxi, gongxi” which means congratulations on the new year.
