NASCAR postponed it’s season indefinitely in March. They still intend to hold all 36 scheduled races this year, even with the COVID-19 complications. It is up to each individual state whether NASCAR may or may not hold a race. Some states are starting to give them permission to hold races without fans. Each state has different dates for when NASCAR may come back. North and South Carolina have given NASCAR permission to hold races without fans. It is being widely reported that NASCAR is planning to hold four races in May. This would make NASCAR the first major sport to come back after being postponed.
Darlington Raceway will hold the first two races back, according to reports. Darlington is in South Carolina and it is one of NASCAR’s oldest and most popular tracks. It is a 1.366 mile track infamous for being one of the most difficult tracks to race at. A 400-mile race will happen on Sunday, May 17th. The second race will be 310-miles. It will take place on Wednesday, May 20th.
Reports say that Charlotte Motor Speedway will host the next two races. While Charlotte Motor Speedway is in North Carolina, it is not actually located in the city of Charlotte. It is instead located in the city of Concord. Charlotte is a 1.5-mile quad-oval track with a road course running through the infield. The Coca-Cola 600 will be the first race. The Coca-Cola 600 is known for being the longest race in NASCAR. The race will happen on Sunday, May 24th. The second race will be 310-miles long, and will take place on Wednesday, May 27th.
